Bush Fire Appeal concert held at The Royal Oak Hotel
On the 7th of Febuary The Sofa Kings played at a private party for a 50th, held at Cressy. A good night was had by all considering that this was the terrible weekend of the bush fires in Victoria. A couple of the host’s friends came over from Victoria to celebrate with them. One lady in particular had been informed that night that she had lost her property and 3 horses, the fact that she was in Tasmania at the time may have been a blessing. Knowing all this, The Sofa Kings played at The Royal Oak Hotel on the 28th of March, with all proceeds going to the Vic Fire Appeal. Karin Grant, President of the Launceston Blues Club, put together a large money box which was used to hold the donations. The host of the party from Cressy took the tin through the whole venue and once they knew it was for a good cause, he tells us everyone threw in. We would like to thank all who donated - $280 was raised, thank you all. Well the band, as usual, banged out all their hot tunes and everyone got sweaty from the word go. Nigel Badcock aka (screamin’ j) was in great form playing and singing. Martyn Gault aka (Boom Boom) the bass player was having a ball keeping everything in check. Then there was Dougie Perkett aka (300 pound love machine) on the drums keeping it all together. Last but not least Paul Glover aka (gatemouth) blew his harp ‘til he could blow no more. A few special guests got up and sang, encouraged by Paul. It was a great night and once again thanks to all who donated. See you at the next gig! |
